Miami Beach Commissioner Held at Gunpoint by Burglar
Police Arrest Suspect After Confession

Miami Beach detectives have arrested a man accused of holding a Miami Beach commissioner at gunpoint during a burglary. The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Juan Carlos Castañeda, was taken into custody on June 28, 2021.
According to police, Castañeda entered the commissioner's home on the night of June 27, 2021, and held him at gunpoint while demanding money. The commissioner was able to escape unharmed and call for help.
Police were able to quickly identify Castañeda as a suspect and tracked him down to his home in Miami. After questioning, Castañeda confessed to the crime and was placed under arrest.
Castañeda is facing charges of armed burglary, robbery, and kidnapping. He is currently being held in the Miami-Dade County Jail without bond.
